Historical Museum of the City of Rio de Janeiro
The Historical Museum of the City of Rio de Janeiro was created as a reflection of the expansion of museums in the nineteenth century and its origins are linked to the beginning of the Republic in Brazil and the role of political center that Rio de Janeiro represented in this context. The MHCRJ is formed by an architectural complex, which includes two 19th century buildings, dedicated to long and short term exhibitions, the 20th century São João Batista Chapel, a technical reserve, and an administrative building. The space is inserted in a natural municipal park in the Gávea neighborhood.
