Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian

The Municipal Center of Arts Calouste Gulbenkian, created on March 11, 1971, is named in honor of the Portuguese cultural institution based in Lisbon - Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The imposing building is one of the 5 most prominent examples of the Carioca modernist movement. The project was conceived by architects Rizza Paes Conde and Cleia Braga. The entire building is made of reinforced concrete, with exposed brick walls, and was constructed between 1969 and 1971.

The center was built in a building with an internal area of 8,800 m² and an external area of 1,733 m², with 32 rooms. The three-story building houses the Gonzaguinha Theater, an auditorium, a video room, 2 art galleries, and twenty classrooms and workshops.
