Rio Café Comedy Club

Rio Café Comedy Club is an innovative cultural venue located in the heart of Downtown Rio, at 53 Buenos Aires Street. It is part of the Reviver Cultural Program of the Municipal Department of Culture of the City of Rio de Janeiro, an initiative aimed at revitalizing the city center and fostering the creative economy.

Inspired by international comedy clubs and European café-theaters, the venue promotes:

  • Stand-up comedy, improv, sketches, character performances, and magic

  • Visual arts exhibitions and photography showcases

  • Screenings of independent short and mid-length films

  • A sustainable library with book exchange and donation programs

  • Free introductory theater and stand-up workshops for public school students and teachers

  • Accessible sessions in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), promoting cultural inclusion

The club also allocates 10% of its tickets to public schools and NGOs, reinforcing its commitment to democratizing access to culture.

Rio Café Comedy Club is a three-story cultural venue designed to provide a complete entertainment and artistic gathering experience. The space includes an accessible restroom in addition to four other bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a bar-café, and two stages with red curtains, theatrical lighting, and professional infrastructure for live performances.

In a short period of operation, more than 30 comedians have performed on its stage, including notable names such as Apóstolo Arnaldo, Matheus Buente, Kwesny, Felipe Absalão, Nil Agra, Paulinho Serra, and Thiago Chagas, establishing the venue as an important hub for stand-up comedy in the city.

The club also stands out for its commitment to inclusion, hosting performances dedicated to the Deaf community, with shows in Libras and simultaneous interpretation, expanding access to culture and promoting diversity within the arts scene.

Beyond comedy, Rio Café Comedy Club has expanded into live music, hosting performances by artists such as Marysa Alfaia and André Imperial, building a diverse program that values different artistic expressions.

Its program continues to grow steadily, reaffirming the venue’s commitment to cultural democratization, the promotion of artists, and the strengthening of the cultural scene in Downtown Rio de Janeiro.
