A bucolic town in the state’s Mountain Region, Santa Maria Madalena retains a setting of great historical value. The city center is made out of centennial houses, landscaped chalets that are typical of the 19th and early 20th centuries and cobblestone streets that follow their original design. Historical buildings can be found on Gwyer de Azevedo street. The center is framed by surrounding mountains and preserved Atlantic Forest. The Desengano State Park, with is 224 square kilometers of environmental protection area, is part of Santa Maria Madalena.
